The Emerson House Story part 1

I had been looking at a place to live for a few years- PA, NJ, CT, Manhattan. I also considered moving out of the area and back to my old college haunt of Boston. I felt a bit like Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz for I landed back in NYC and pleaded with the realtor, Hal Lehrman,(a good egg of a guy), " there has to be someplace, if not in Manhattan, in Brooklyn that has a yard that will grow more than moss, windows for lots of light, (I am not interested in growing mushrooms) and a room big enough for a 7 foot Steinway piano.

Well, the patient soul that he is, Hal took me to his neighborhood- historic Flatbush. My jaw dropped and then I knew I truly was Dorothy dropped down in OZ. These beautiful homes, front lawns, big open porches....it sure didn't feel like New York City any more! There actually was parking on the street!

(For those that might not know, parking a car in New York City with its alternate street side parking rules can be a 'fascinating' experience.)

I knew this was the neighborhood for me! My search was focused and forward I hunted! Here is a photo of one of the houses in this glorious neighborhood! This is a photo of when the neighborhood was new.....early 1900's. Many of the homes look the same- different colors maybe. The giveaway are size of the trees:)
In 100 years, they have time to grow:)
