New York City has so much history. Brooklyn is a big part of that history. It was its own city until 1898 when it became incorporated with Manhattan and became one of the boroughs. It has often been called the "Great Mistake of '98".
Brooklyn has its own distinct history, development and character. Something not to miss when visiting New York City.
The Brooklyn Academy of Music, the Brooklyn Museum and the Brooklyn Botanical Garden are must sees.
My neighborhood was developed in the end of the 1800's. It has some of the most beautiful homes- built for the wealthy bankers, the early silent screen movie stars and railroad tycoons. do you remember Arrow Shirt Company, Kinney Shoes, Vitagraph Studios, or Baldwin Pianos? They all had homes in this historic neighborhood of Flatbush.
You would recognize many of the homes here from the movies, for example, Sophie's Choice and Halloween, many TV shows and commercials. My home was in a Maxwell House commercial in 1979. But how I know that is another story.
Our neighborhood has homes with Tiffany stained glass, many stained glass windows, large sweeping porches, the first shopping plaza in America-Newkirk Plaza and the largest collection of California style bungalows in America.
